1. soak beans overnight then boil for 30-60 minutes or until tender

2. saute onions in olive oil until tender. add garlic and jalapeno and saute for 5 more minutes

3. add spices and continue to saute two more minutes

4. add tomatoes to the pot and bring to a simmer. simmer mixture until tomatoes lose most of their water.

5. add beans to the tomato mixture simmer for 15 minutes

6. remove from heat, add lime juice
